Megaways Calculator
Set how many symbols landed on each reel (2–7) and get the exact number of ways to win for that spin.
You get 5 spins. After each spin, tap a reel to lock it — locked reels keep their height, the rest spin again. Build the biggest number of ways. Can you reach 117,649?
Free maths puzzle — no bets, no prizes, no real-money play. The Daily Hunt uses its own random reel heights and does not copy the odds of any real slot. 18+ only. Gambling can be addictive — play responsibly: GambleAware.
Megaways slots change the number of symbols on every reel on every spin, so the number of ways to win is different each time. This free Megaways calculator does the maths for you: set the height of each reel and it shows the exact number of ways, how close that is to the 117,649 maximum, and how rare that layout is among all possible reel combinations.
How to calculate Megaways
The formula is simple: multiply the number of symbols showing on each reel. A standard Megaways slot has six reels, and each reel can show between 2 and 7 symbols.
- Minimum: 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 = 64 ways
- Example spin: 7 × 6 × 5 × 4 × 3 × 2 = 5,040 ways
- Maximum: 7 × 7 × 7 × 7 × 7 × 7 = 117,649 ways
A win is formed when matching symbols land on adjacent reels from left to right, in any position on the reel. That is why every extra symbol on a reel multiplies the total rather than adding to it.
Why some Megaways slots have 200,704 ways
Some games add an extra horizontal reel above reels 2, 3, 4 and 5. It puts one more symbol on each of those four reels, so they can hold up to 8 symbols instead of 7. The maximum becomes 7 × 8 × 8 × 8 × 8 × 7 = 200,704 ways. Tick the “Extra horizontal reel” box in the calculator to switch to this format — it is the one used by Buffalo King Megaways, Great Rhino Megaways and Madame Destiny Megaways, while The Dog House Megaways and 5 Lions Megaways top out at 117,649.
How to use the Megaways calculator
- Look at the reels of your slot after a spin and count the symbols on each of the six reels.
- Use the + and − buttons under each reel to set the same heights in the calculator.
- If the game has a horizontal reel above the middle reels, tick “Extra horizontal reel”.
- Read the result: the exact number of ways, the multiplication behind it and how it compares with every other possible layout.
Press “Copy link to this layout” to send a specific spin to a friend, or “Random spin” to see how much the number jumps from one spin to the next.
Megaways formats and their maximum ways
Not every Megaways game uses the same reel set. These are the formats you will meet in the Megaways slots reviewed on this site:
| Maximum ways | How it is reached | Example slots |
|---|---|---|
| 117,649 | 6 reels, up to 7 symbols each (7 × 7 × 7 × 7 × 7 × 7) | Bonanza Megaways, Extra Chilli Megaways, Gonzo’s Quest Megaways, The Dog House Megaways, 5 Lions Megaways |
| 200,704 | 6 reels plus a horizontal reel that adds a symbol to reels 2–5 (7 × 8 × 8 × 8 × 8 × 7) | Buffalo King Megaways, Great Rhino Megaways, Madame Destiny Megaways |
| 248,832 | 5 reels that grow up to 12 rows in free spins (12 × 12 × 12 × 12 × 12); 16,807 in the base game (7 × 7 × 7 × 7 × 7) | White Rabbit |
| 46,656 | A smaller reel set with a lower ceiling | Temple Tumble Megaways |
The calculator covers the first two formats, which are by far the most common. For any other game the rule stays the same: multiply the number of symbols on every reel.
How rare is 117,649 ways?
Six reels with six possible heights each (2 to 7) give 46,656 different reel layouts. We ran all of them through the calculator:
| Fact | Number |
|---|---|
| Possible reel layouts | 46,656 |
| Layouts that give the full 117,649 ways | 1 |
| Layouts that give 100,000 ways or more | 7 |
| Layouts that give 50,000 ways or more | 336 (0.7%) |
| Different “ways” numbers you can actually see | 336 |
| Most common result | 5,040 ways (1,080 layouts) |
| Median layout | 5,184 ways |
| Average across all layouts | about 8,304 ways |
In other words, the headline number on the game’s logo is the ceiling, not the norm: half of all layouts sit at roughly 5,000 ways or below. Keep in mind this table treats every layout as equally likely. Real slots use their own reel strips and weightings, which providers do not publish, so the true frequency of a full-ways spin in any particular game will be different.
Do more ways mean a better chance to win?
Not by themselves. More ways mean more possible paths for a winning combination on that spin, but the payout still depends on which symbols land. The long-term return of a slot is set by its RTP and volatility, not by the ways counter, and no calculator can predict or influence a spin — every result is produced by a random number generator. If you want to compare games by those numbers, start with our top 5 Megaways slots table, which lists RTP, volatility and maximum win side by side. To see what RTP and volatility do to a session, play it 10,000 times in the Megaways simulator.

The second tab of the tool is a free daily puzzle. Everyone gets the same reels each day and five spins to build the biggest number of ways: lock the reels you like, re-spin the rest and decide when to stop chasing a better height. When you finish, you can share your result as a row of coloured squares and compare it with friends. A new puzzle appears at midnight UTC. There are no bets and no prizes — it is a numbers game about the Megaways formula.
Megaways calculator FAQ
How many ways to win do Megaways slots have?
A standard six-reel Megaways slot has between 64 and 117,649 ways on any spin. Games with an extra horizontal reel can reach 200,704 ways.
How is 117,649 calculated?
It is 7 multiplied by itself six times (7 × 7 × 7 × 7 × 7 × 7), which happens when all six reels show the maximum of seven symbols.
What is the lowest number of Megaways?
On a standard six-reel game it is 64 ways, when every reel shows only two symbols (2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 2).
Can a calculator help me win at Megaways slots?
No. The calculator explains how the ways number is built; it cannot predict results. Slot outcomes are random and the house always has an edge over time.
Is the Daily Hunt a real slot?
No. It is a free puzzle with no stakes or prizes, and its reel heights are generated by our own rules rather than the maths of any real game.
